Well first of everything let me thanks my best friends for helping me, they are none other than my Lantis (I really owe you too much, always helping me and I do appreciate it man... Don't know how to thank you!), Frankie (Of course without you this thread will be uncomplete... So thanks to you buddy and just wait for my coming pics rush ), Dark Setsuna (Oh well without this one this thread would be really sucks, thanks for the informations dude) , CK (Honestly, this guy helped me the most, your reviews and wallpapers are really damn good also many other stuff... Just keep the good work up man... Always to the top) and Siegfried (Hehe how can I post this thread without your help, I am pretty sorry about your site but I am sure you are going to come back once again to prove that you are bomb!! Thanks man I really appreciate it... I really can't create this thread without them, though... So just consider that thread a gift from me to them...

As you all know, Samurai Shodown is the great and infamous 2D weapon fighting game series done by the great company SNK... It's one of the most popular fighting game of all time, I like it soooooo much, the reason I am posting ths thread was because of some requests of my good pals such as Ursene Lupin, Hell Storm and some others... I wanted to let the others know more about this cool series and I am sure you will like it so much if you follow the game after game after a game...etc Anyway let me stop my blah blah blah... And let's get going...

THE STORY:
Well we all know how is great the Samurai Shodown stories, I really like it so much, demons fighting devils, half human and half devil, monsters, warriors and a weapon fighting series... The story really owns especially the games storyline, it's not the same as anime but have some connections of Samurai Shodown game, and the second anime with Asra's saga and Yuga... Well I like the 3D games storyline, it's really cool! Asra and Shiki's sad story, Yuga and his intentions, the super Kazuki and Sogetsu, oh god it's damn good...


THE CHARACTERS:
Samurai Shodown features the damn cool characters, they have really very coooooool characters from every game they have at least one damned character, I like many characters such as Yuda, Asra, Genjuro, Haito, Yaci, Sogetsu, Ukyo, Kazuki, Yuga, Haohmaru...etc I am sure you will find your character in this great series, they have all type of characters, cold blooded characters, dark fighters, joke fighters, kids, girls, and big ones and old jerks as well... It's damn complete series...


THE GRAPHICS:
Many other thinks the graphics sucks too much but I really disagree, the anime movies graphics wasn't that much but yet it was really good and I personally like it alot, as for games the old games graphics are really not that good but as for SS 4, and the 3D games I think it was pretty good... All I want to say that I don't have problem with the graphics, though...


THE MUSICS:
Well this might not be that great, what else can you imagine for Samurai's musics, it's sure not that great but yet it's not bad, they have some really good background themes such as Genjuro, Nakoruru, Asra, Shiki and Haito and Tohma's background themes, there are more than that you will find while plying the games though...


STYLE:
The anime style is not bad I like it, even though they don't give a damn credits to their main characters such as Ukyo or Genjuro but yet is great, as for the game style it's really very good and a new type, the combo system can be done so easily, no problem at all with it, also the charge and guage aren't that bad, as for the characters well don't ask me dude, because everybody have his own cool style, I like Tohma's style alot, kinda remind me of Geese and Genjuro though, there you also have the ultimate Asra, which awarded as the best character in 98 I am not sure but I heard about it though... Also the cool Yamazki of the game (Haito Kanakura, hehehe) you will sure like it...


OVERALL:
I don't know what to say but I guess it deserve the full credits, cool characters, story, graphics, and not bad musics...etc What else you need for a fighting game!? I guess it's damn complete series and I like it so much, I just can't wait for another Samurai Game, I need to play it dude, at least one new anime for Samurai Shodown: Warrior's Rage 2, anything will be good, anyway all I have to say that you need at least to check it out then judge, it's really a big and awesome series... Where else you will find a series that have such cool characters like Genjuro, Ukyo, Sogetsu, Kazuki, Yuda, Zankuro, Asra, Yuga, Shiki, Galford, Hanzo...etc I know you will say KOF yeah KOF is another damn series and that's why I like it but yet I guess the KOF storyline (The new games) isn't as good as Samurai storyline...

THE STORY:

One hundred years ago, there was seven holy warrior. One of the holy warrior named Amakusa, has betrayed the other six warriors, then he has control of all the powers. The six were kill by Amakusa and then reborn a hundred years later. They were reborn to find him and fight for justice.


REVIEW AND THOUGHTS:

A lot of people who play arcade games will know that Samurai Shodown is an arcade game made by SNK and are available for the NeoGeo game system. Due to the popularity of certain arcade games, they usually have a motion pictures or movies for it, just like Street Fighter 2 the movie or Fatal Fury the motion picture. And for those people who never played Samurai Shodown and are just an anime viewer, they wouldn't know any of the characters from Samurai Shodown and might not enjoy this movie. I read an anime review wrote by someone that said Samurai Shodown(the movie) doesn't even rate 1, and has the worst graphic and storylines. Oh, that was really a huge insult to Samurai Shodown. The graphic or drawing might not be that good, but the stories are really something and every characters are awesome. I really like this motion picture base on the fact that this anime is more a historically based anime. If you want me to compare Street Fighter 2, the movie with Samurai Shodown, I would prefer Samurai Shodown. Even I am very familiar with both Street Fighter's and Samurai Shodown's character and story plot and despite the popularity of the SF2 movie, I still think that Samurai Shodown is more worthwhile to watch. By the way, I like the SS ending theme song.

Well as you all know the Samurai Shodown series is damn big, SNK released alot of SS games for many systems, Sega, SNES, Neo Geo CD, Neo Geo Hyper 64, Sega Saturn, Playstation...etc So I really can't write about every game but I will do whenever I have time, hope you all understand! But I found the cover pictures for the 4 Samurai games, 1, 2, 3 and 4... There is also many other games such as for Neo Geo Pocket or 3D games such as Samurai Shodown 64: Asra's Dynasty or Warrior's Rage but as I said I can't write about everything...


Here is the cover of the first Samurai Shodown game, it's the europe version I didn't found the cover of the english version, sorry... Well the first game was nothing, it was bad for me but yet it wasn't that bad for an old game, you know what I mean, right!?

Samurai Shodown 2 was really a very cool game since they added the legendary Genjuro Kibagami, and added some other great characters such as Sieger, and for the first time a femal final boss, Mizuki! It's pretty good to see the demons attacking you here and there hehe...

Here is the cover of Samurai Shodown 3, it's a good game indeed but for some reasons I like Samurai Shodown 2, but yet for some it may be the best Samurai Game, everybody have his own view about the game

Here is the cover of Samurai Shodown 4, well for me it's the best Samurai Shodown game, I like it soooooo much, it's really cool, it's faster than the old games, have many cool characters especially Sogetsu and Kazuki (The new comers) you will find some cool background theme as well, much better in the game style and graphics, just if the characters from the 3D games were here, it will be one damn good game...

STORY:
Again, one of the new characters from Samurai Spirits 64. He is also a very mysterious character. He is one of the main characters in Samurai Spirits 64. He was created by the evil Yuga, he is one of his Asuras. He possesses strange morphing powers and has feathers too. His Daitou grows out of his hand. He is in love with Shiki. Like Shiki, he was used by Yuga to complete his diabolical schemes. But Asra realized he didn't want Yuga to hurt people and to create a reign of evil, so he opposed him. At the end, Asra is able to defeat Yuga, and dies at Shiki's side after his life force was used up in the battle. It is unknown if he really died.

STORY:

He promises to himself that one day, she will be his bride. Garyo fights using a thick, short sword, but he mostly keeps it in its seathe. STORY:
Haito is one of the most feared criminals that live in Riten Kyo. The Samurai squad proves to be no match for Haito, who easily takes advantage of his superior skills and abilities to squeeze money out of his poor victims. A former bodyguard gone bad, Haito has a sickening obsession for blood, especially since he loves the color: red. He has grown to love blood, since Haito himself, is affected with a terrible sickness, that causes him to have blood-coughing seizures. To control this, Haito often drinks from a special potion to sooth the pain and grant him extreme abilities. Haito is cold blooded and ruthless, raised even more by the fact that he was turned down by his eternal beloved, the fatal female, Saya. With nothing more to live for, and with his own life at the line, Haito decides to take it all out against the Razor Trio, as he deems them unfit to rule a island gone wild.

He is one of the past heroes of the Samurai battles, along with Haomaru. His current duty is to regain control of Riten Kyo at any cost.

And his victorypose is wonderful! He's in love with a girl called Shizu but he's too busy to really spend time with her. Oh, and in case you wondered, his SPEAKING LIKE THIS is taken from UVR; they gave him that particular character trait and I really like it! For once they've made a character look significantly older after 20 years ^_^. This is aging with dignity!

They are not as skilled as Hanzo, but their lethal assassination skills are a menace to many of those who oppose the Bafuku government. The Iga Ninjas have no special moves, nor do they have super moves.

STORY:

There, he meets several youngsters who have helped him regain his lively energy: the young son of Kuki, Seishiro, who was always quiet and simple-mannered. The other was Jushiro, a lively, spirited young man, who saw life as an eternal dream towards the future. However, several things began to go wrong, which involved his friend Kuki being killed by his other son, Tohma, and the betrayal of Jushiro. As the most experimented samurai, Jin-Emon is assigned the most dangerous of his missions: he is to regain control in the prison island of Riten Kyo, along Seishiro. He is also ordered to kill all those traitors to the Bafuku....

STORY:

Jubei is the Shogun's best and most trusted man. He is a legendary hero and always completes his task quickly. This one-eyed spy for the Shogun may look cold-blooded and ruthless, but he is indeed a very gentle man, who loves peace and nature. Though he always obeys his master, he feels bad when he has killed or hurt somebody. As it is obvious, Jubei wears a hakama and daisho (a set of two katana), which is a sign that he is a high-ranked samurai.

STORY:
Jushiro is a daydreamer that was once part of the samurai squad of the Bafuku government. Thus, being an outstanding warrior, he was assigned to train with the great samurai master, Kuki. Kuki took Jushiro in like if he were his own son, and Jushiro soon became acquainted with his fellow trainees: Seishiro and Tohma, both sons of Kuki. However, both of them liked to keep to themselves, and ignore everything else. So, Jushiro made friends with the veteran samurai, Jin-Emon, and both became best comrades. It was one woman, although, that changed Jushiro's world. Her name was Karen, one of the few female samurais working for the Bafuku. Jushiro loved her lively spirit and charming manners, but Karen was a loyal follower of the Way of the Samurai, and decided to put her duties before personal feelings. One day, word came out that the princess was threatened by death by some fellow only known as Oboro. Baring a striking resemblance to the princess, Karen was chosen as the decoy to lure Oboro in. Jushiro opposed, but Karen kept up anyway. An entire unit was assigned to protect the fake "princess". As previewed, Oboro attacked. However, it wasn't previewed that Oboro would be so powerful, and in no time, he eliminated all the samurais, and mortally wounded the princess. Having heard this, Jushiro ran to Karen's side, but it was too late: she was far beyond hope. Disgusted and torn apart, Jushiro quits the samurai legion. Having been encountered alone in the butchering site, Jushiro was aimed as the main suspect, and sent to Riten Kyo. There, he joins with female warriors Saya and Rinka to form the Atom Rebels, an anti-Bafuku group. This enraged his former superiors even more, and becomes the main target of extermination. However, for some odd reason, Jushiro tends to worry more about her female friends, than the fact that he has been targeted. Can Jushiro survive the Bafuku assault?

Mikoto is the sole daughter of the great warriors, Asra and Shiki. Both Asra and Shiki were servants to Yuga, the great evil force that tormented the world 20 years ago, and even Shiki was one of the daughters of Yuga. Both of her parents died bravely in order to save the world from Yuga's menace. Before her mother died, Shiki gave Mikoto up to adoption a Buddhist temple, and left. Haomaru was left in charge of her, as well as her "grandfather", who lived in the temple. Since then, Mikoto has considered Haomaru like an uncle to her. However, her cursed blood was not to be denied, but since Mikoto lived amidst a peaceful climate, there was nothing to worry. That was, until the point a man named Tohma arrived at the temple one day to hide from his persecutors. Mikoto found this man mysterious, and full of enigmas. However, she couldn't stop feeling attraction for this man who lived passionately for what he craved for. She also felt incredible sadness in his heart, and couldn't bear to see him suffer. So, Mikoto decided to leave the temple and accompany Tohma to Riten Kyo, where he soon established conditions of leadership, along with the enigmatic old man, Oboro. They formed the "Razor Trio", and although she is not completely evil, Mikoto can't ignore the call for bloodshed, as if something deep within her blood was summoning her....

She makes two great friends, and thanks to them, she can finally wander outside the castle, and take a last trip throughout Riten Kyo, before she is sent off to Ryukyu, a land of peace.

However, she always lived with anger towards the Razor Trio, and towards the Bafuku for allowing her family to be manipulated by criminals, and have not done anything to avoid their murder. Soon, she joins the 'Atom Rebels' liberation group, and with Jushiro and Rinka, she proposes herself to dethrone both the Bafuku and the Razor Trio in Riten Kyo. Saya is quite vain and arrogant, but her sense of freedom and kindness have a strong presence in her heart, as well.

STORY:
Seishiro is the son of one of the greatest samurais that has ever existed: the great Kuki. Since he was very young, Seishiro began his training as a servant to his lord, another samurai of legend. Back then, he had to compete in a ferocious way with his own brother, Tohma Kuki, in order to prove who was the worthiest warrior. However, Seishiro's abilities came out naturally. His skill with the sword was unsurpassed, and few met his match. Soon, he was joined in his training by his father's friend, Jin-Emon Hanafusa, and by yet another talented student, Jushiro Sakaki. However, Seishiro wasn't the friendly type: so self-absorbed in training made him bitter against other people, and rarely talked at all, being sometimes very rude. However, his strong appearance is very fragile, since he likes to take casual naps, at anytime. One night, his father appeared dead, and the Blade of the Flaming Sun was missing. So was Tohma. Suspecting Tohma had killed his father, Seishiro decides to join Jin-Emon in his task to recover order in the prison island of Riten Kyo, where the Razor Trio and Tohma terrorized the general population, ordered by the Bafuku. With no shown hate in his face, Seishiro takes the journey of his life, with his father's other sword, the Full Moon Blade. After defeating Tohma Kuki, his own brother, in combat, Seishiro takes his father's other sword, the Blade of the Flaming Sun, and returns to his headquarters, the Samurai Station. Seishiro adopts his own identity, but during his return, several friends and enemies reappear again to do him challenge. However, with both of his father's swords, he is granted incredible strength, and is ready for any test that awaits him.

She was told to find a man fit to become the perfect body for Yuga's resurrection. She realized Haohmaru was that man, then she follows him for a chance to take him away to the dark side. She is the mother of a baby. A while after, Yuga's plan ends in failure and Shiki is able to return to her normal self and take care of her baby. She is in love with Asra. Shiki's beautiful eyes have two colors. Her left eye is red and her right eye is blue. That's why she is named Shiki, since the kanji used to write her name means color.

In one of his travels to Japan, Tashon Mao suddenly met a glowing light in the forest. The light was so warm, but the figure inside the light was even more charming. Tashon Mao claimed it was a fairy, but it was really the spirit of Nakoruru, who was on her way to the prison island of Riten Kyo. Nakoruru confused Tashon Mao with a panda, but being completely hypnotized by her beauty, Tashon Mao didn't object at all. After Nakoruru flied away, Tashon Mao follows her to the dark depths of Riten Kyo.

His quest led him to be prosecuted by the Bafuku government, so he decided to hide out in a local Buddhist temple in the middle of the forest. There he met a fair maiden called Mikoto, whom he didn't pay much attention, but accepted her in his travel. Their journey finally arrived at the prison island of Riten Kyo. Tohma and Mikoto proved to be more than powerful enough than your regular grunt, which caught the eye of the criminal stageleader of Riten Kyo, the elderly old man, Oboro. Soon enough, Tohma became the most feared warrior of the Razor Trio, and the main extermination goal of the Bafuku government.

ABOUT THIS CD

Since the CD is an import CD, Samurai Shodown 4 simply goes by the name Samurai Spirits Amakusa Kourin in Japan. This is an official Samurai Spirits music CD/drama CD/soundtrack done by SNK New World Sound Players. This CD also includes short drama. This CD has 11 tracks of characters themes, 1 track of title music(intro), 1 track of staff role(ending) and 4 shorts drama(In Japanese, of course).

Short Story lines for the Drama Series
Short Drama No.1---Hisame Shizumaru (7:08)
Shizumaru is travelling by himself one day. Suddenly, it rains. He is then going to sleep under the tree. Later, he hears someone is saying stuff to him, then he sees Minazuki Zankuro. Zankuro is certainly Shizumaru's worst nightmare. Shizumaru is surprised that Zankuro remembers everything that Shizumaru remember and not remember. But when Shizumaru tries to get rid of this evil intentioned Zankuro, he just stands no chance against him. Shizumaru wakes up the next morning and realizes that he was having this reocuring dream again. But it was so real that he wonders whether that was really a dream.


Short Drama No.2---Nakoruru & Rimururu (10:29)
This one is about the flashback of Rimururu when she was younger(perhaps a year ago). She remembers when they first heard the news about the death of their father, her sister Nakoruru was not even crying and she told Rimururu that she had to be strong and stuff like that. Thus, Rimururu is really mad at her sister just because she was not crying over the death of their father. Later, she realized that Nakoruru is actually really sad about this deep down, but Nakoruru just had to pretend to be strong emotionally in front of her sister. Then Rimururu was determined that she wanted to be strong and be a fighter, so that help she could help her sister to fight the evil spirits.


Short Drama No.3---Kibagami Genjuro & Haohmaru (10:53)
Haohmaru is drinking by himself one day in an inn. A girl named Oto go up to him and ask if he cares to spend a night with her. Of course Haohmaru rejects this this kind of invitation(good old Haohmaru), he says he is too tired and just want to drink, eat and then sleep. Oto is amused by his natural sense of humor, she tells him that she used to know a samurai who seems to have the same way of samurai as Haohmaru, however he is totally different than Haohmaru. His name is Genjuro. Haohmaru nods that he knew him. Now Oto starts telling Haohmaru the story of Genjuro and her. Oto was sort of Genjuro's woman. Genjuro liked her for the fact that she has this scar that her mother gave her (same as Genjuro). His enemies were looking for him for revenge one day, they hold Oto as a hostage. Genjuro doesn't care, he slashes his enemy and his woman at the same time. He laughs a bit and says he is by himself, he doesn't need any woman travel along with him. Now, Oto finishes this story. She asks Haohmaru that if he challenges Genjuro and defeats him one day, please give his head to her. Haohmaru sighs, he doesn't know when he'll see him. Maybe five years later, or maybe 10 years later.


Short Drama No.4---Kazama Kazuki & Kazama Sogetsu (5:23)
There is this rule in the Ninja clan where Kazuki and Sogetsu belong to: no one can leave the clan, if anyone break the rule, he will be executed. Kazuki is now going to leave the clan in order to go save his sister, Hazuki. But his brother, Sogetsu stops him from going. After Kazuki is striked by him, he wakes up in a place and he sees Yayoi (he is under the care of this girl named Yayoi after he is hurt by Sogetsu). It is actually Sogetsu who brings him to Yayoi's place. Although he knows that he has to kill him because of breaking the rule, but he lets him get away this time.


REVIEW AND THOUGHTS:

When I just got this CD, I was just too excited over it. The dramas are just so cool. But you know, after a while you just got tired with the drama dialogue(you can't just keep listening to those dialogue no matter how good it is). Nevertheless, I still listen to those characters' themes and like them very much. The theme that I like the most is the Amakusa's theme. I also like Galford's, Nakoruru, Rimururu's and Haohmaru's theme. The voice acting in the drama are undoubtedly good, you should listen to it if you know some Japanese. This 17 tracks SS4 drama/music CD will certainly be one of your favorites if you have always enjoyed Samurai Shodown/Spirits themes.

REVIEW AND THOUGHTS:

Okay, to be honest, I don't really like this CD. But as a SS fan, this is something I got to have. As you know, some of the music are just redone from the previous SS games, i.e. Nakoruru, Galford, Genjuro. But most of them are new composed songs. This time the Nakoruru's theme is more serene, it is quite different from the SS4 one, I think I like this one more. The Galford's theme seems faster, but I think the SS4 one is better composed. Now, if you ask me what is the best song in this CD, I would have to say Rimururu's theme. Even in the arcade, her theme still sound very nice. The last track of this CD is the vocal track of Rimururu's theme, very nice. Actually, I can say that Rimururu's theme is the main reason for anyone to buy this CD. Other than Rimururu's theme, the ending theme is pretty good too. Shiki's theme is not bad also. It's weird, she screams softly in some part of her theme, as like a background music. Anyway, the Kazuki's theme is similar to his old theme, but not as good as the old one. I personally don't quite like the new Haohmaru's theme. Genjuro's one is like the SS4 one, except there is an older women singing Japanese Opera type of music to start of the song. The rest of the music in this CD are just okay. In conclusion, if you like the music in the arcade, then you'll like this CD too. I think the original arcade music is not much different from the music in this arranged soundtrack. Because I think the Hyper Neo Geo 64 has better sound synthenizer than the old neo geo machine, that means if you are comparing SS4 music from a cartridge and SS4 AST, then there is quite a difference. So, I would say the SS64 music quality from the arcade will not be as bad as this SS64 AST. Personally, I don't like it that much, I listen to it once in a while.


BUYER'S GUIDE:

Buy it if you love SS's BGM (Espescially, Nako's, Rimu's and Shiki's themes).
Buy it if you really like to collect SS soundtrack.
Buy it if you want to hear Shiki screams (That's like the bg sounds in one of the track)

STORY:

Nakoruru senses the evil spirits are growing stronger. As a nature guardian, she has to find out what is going wrong. Later, she meets Haohmaru. They find out that Yui Shosetsu is behind all this, With Hanzo's help, they start off their journey of seeking and defeating the evil Shosetsu.


REVIEW AND THOUGHTS:

As you know, the graphic novel is only a fanfic done by Japanese, but is being translated to English. I would just rate this as an 'okay' manga(comics). First of all, the translation is not that great. Secondly, the characters in the manga is not as 'original'. Thirdly, the book is 'expensive'. Buy hey, it is not really that bad, there are still some good things about that manga. The artwork is decent and the story lines is pretty good. Sometimes, it is funny in a sense. Anyways, this is the only Samurai Shodown Graphic Novel available for all the Samurai Shodown fans, so you might want to consider about buying it, even though it is not that great.

SAMURAI SHODOWN 64 ACTION FIGURES













REVIEW AND THOUGHTS:

These are SS64 action figures manufactured by Epoch(Japan) and distributed in the U.S. by Sideshow Toy. This is a set of four SS64 action figures, the characters are Haohmaru, Hattori Hanzo, Nakoruru and Shiki. The Haohmaru figure is sculpted by Yasufumi Matsuda and the rest of them are sculpted by Hiroki Hayashi, and I have no idea who these people are. These action figures are 6 inches and 1/10 scale. They are recommended for mature collectors ages 10 and over, because of sharp points of the little swords and stuff. Each action figure comes with sword, a diferent hand and stuff. For instance, you can detach the hand and attach another hand(like for the Haohmaru one, you can detach his hand and put on another hand that hold his sake bottle). For the Hanzo one, there is a different head, the unmasked Hanzo, it's quite cool actually, you can see the cool scar across his eye.

They are actually quite nice action figures, nicely sculpted for most of them, except for the Shiki one, her face just doesn't look like her at all, plain ugly. Even though the figures seem nice, I just feel it was a waste of money for me, and I kind of regret buying it. Well, it's your choice whether you want to buy these or not. If you want to get them, you can probably find it in your local hobby shop or something, but I just bought mine from their website(check the link below)
