As most of you know The Animatrix is a collection of 9 episodes made by 7 of the greatest animation creators ever. They are made to more explain the world of the Matrix and to give some answers to some of the question posted in the Matrix trilogy. I just bought the DVD yesterday and obviously watched it yesterday. Each of the 9 episodes had a different style than the other one, for example Final Flight of the Osiris was mad by an outstanding CG graphics that were used in the movie Final Fantasy and there is more different styles in all of them and all were good
Here is brief explanation of each and how good it was: l
Final Flight of the Osiris: l
As i said before this one was made by CG graphics and was directed by Andy Jones who worked on Final Fantasy. This one is the only one that deals with Reloaded actually Osiris is the ship that delivered the message about the machines that were digging to destroy Zion. I though this episodes was the best out of the 9 even though it was the shortest of them all. I would of giving it a 10 out of 10 but due to its short live I give it a 9 out of 10.
The Second Renaissance Parts I &II
Made by Mahiro Maeda the creator of Blue Supmarine6. The Second Renaissance Parts I and II explains how did the machines revolt against human and how they beat them and the early programming of the Matrix. I liked these two episodes but I thought that they should of talked more about machines revolution and wanting to be free instead they talked mostly about what happened after the they revolt and I hated the way they showed humans behaviors which is partly true but I don’t really think that I would feel any sympathy for machines so heck with them. I think that most of the rebellions that were shown here were actually historical and happened between humans, so if they just wanted to show how humans are violent against themselves and it would result in their own destruction than I like it. Overall these two episodes were great and have a deep meaning for them if you think about them. I give them both a 10 out of 10.
Kid’s Story:
Created by Shinichiro Watanabe the creature of the famous Cowboy Bebop. This episode is about a boy who had the same question Neo had (why does it seem more real when I dreaming than when I’m awake?) it’s not exactly the same but it’s similar to Neo’s question. However, Neo does the same thing Morphese did to him and try to help the Kid to wake from the Matrix. The animation in this peace is very good and stylish but I didn’t like it that much. I expected this episode to be better maybe b/c Neo’s voice is it that’s all but it’s not that bad I give it a 7 out of 10.
Program:
Created by the very famous Yoshiaki Kawajiri the creature of Ninja Scroll (one of my favorite anime). This episode just try to more explain the nature of the Matrix and that how even you know that it’s not real you still want to go back to it (just like Cipher in the first Movie). I loved this episode maybe b/c it had the setting that Ninja Scroll had that I loved and beside the animation in this one were very original and had the Matrix flavor in it which was very tasty(hehehehe) I mean good. I give this one a 9 out of 10.
World Record:
Created by Takeshi Koike who worked on Ninja Scroll and some other famous shorts.This episode wanted to show that there is different ways to be awaken from the Matrix other than having a questioning nature and very sensitive feeling( not nice feeling but aware feelings). I liked the animation in this one and to be honest with you I never saw something like it before. I loved the way the guy was awaken( or almost awakened). Loved it and I’m giving it a 10 out of 10.
Beyond:
I think this one was the best out of all of the 9 episodes. Created by Koji Morimoto the creator of the amazing Akira. A bunch of kids play in a house that they think is hunted but it’s actually a breakdown or a mistake in the Matrix it self. Loved the animation loved the idea loved every thing about it and I give it a 10 out of 10.
A Detective Story:
Also directed by the amazing Shinichiro Watanabe, this episode was amazing. The agents haired a detective to look for Trinity and offered him a lot of money. I loved the detective and Trinity looked even hotter in the anime world than she is in real (she is hot in real too). Very good episode and looked kind of like Cowboy Bebop which is great I give it a 9 out of 10.
Matriculated:
The weirdest episode of all. Directed by Peter Chung the creator of Aeon Flux and Alexander. The episode showed how the human are trying to captures some smart and good machines and convert them to help them by bulging them to a world that is similar to the Matrix (not exactly) rather than making them slaves again. The animation looked like both Aeon Flux and Alexander which is also good. The only problem with this episode that it’s kind of weird even though I understood what they were trying to do I think it just looked weird (maybe that’s what Peter Chung wanted) I give it a 7 out of 10.
Overall the Animatrix was very interesting to watch even though I expected it to be better but still it’s great and my over all score is 9 out of 10.
